14 Jun 2007 - Year 11 enjoy "Blood Brothers" at the Grand Opera House.
"Have you ever heard the story of the Johnstone twins?"
Year 11 English and Drama students at Bangor Academy have! They were captivated by Willy Russell's multi-award winning musical on stage at the Grand Opera House throughout June.
Over 160 students attended a fantastic performance of the popular play and GCSE text. The strongest performance was Linda Nolan's in the role of Mrs Johnstone - the downtrodden mother of seven who reluctantly agrees to give away one of her newborn twins to the manipulative, middleclass Mrs Lyons.
We followed the fortunes of Mickey and Eddie as they grew up on either side of the class divide. Their lives converged and separated periodically until eventually their tragic end unfolds in an emotional climactic scene.
There was no doubt of the audience's appreciation as a wave of applause quickly moved to a standing ovation and everyone agreed it had been a very enjoyable experience.
Thanks to Mrs Stockman who organised the trip.
