Welcome to Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College

Why Study at Bangor Academy

Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College has a long tradition of providing high quality education for pupils in the 11-18 age group.  Each year Bangor Academy welcomes students from a variety of different schools and encourages students of all abilities to enrol in its Sixth Form.  Success within the classroom has resulted in a Sixth Form intake of 236 students studying 20 A level courses and 3 OCR National courses.

The past few years have been very exciting in the life of the School as we have witnessed achievement after achievement.  Our examination results have been maintained at a very high level.  In A level, 98% of all subject entries resulted in pass grades and 66% of all A level subject

entries achieved Grade C or above.  Results such as these include students gaining 1st place in N.I. C.C.E.A. examinations in both 2006 and 2007.  These subjects include Applied I.C.T. and GCE A level Health & Social Care Single Award.  Consequently, the majority of students choose to go on to degree courses at higher education institutions or opt for careers with further training.

2007 saw forty students setting off to study at universities such as London Metropolitan, Newcastle , Dundee, Queen’s University Belfast, University of Ulster , Stranmillis University College and South Eastern Regional College .

Our Sixth Form students are given the opportunity to contribute to the wider community by supporting charities and forging links with local businesses.

In Sixth Form we strive to create a mature and adult atmosphere.  Highly qualified and experienced staff prepare and equip students to move on successfully, whatever their chosen career pathway.
